Numerical Modelling of Prestressed Geogrid Reinforced Soil for Adjacent Square Footing
Prestressing the geosynthetics offers a very quick and safe method of improving the poor ground conditions. This paper aims to find out the effect of prestressing the geogrid layer and the effect of adjacency of footing for unreinforced (UR), geogrid reinforced (GR) and prestressed geogrid reinforced (PGR) soil on the load bearing pressure and the settlement characteristics by using the software PLAXIS 3D. The PGR soil has enhanced the bearing pressure of the UR soil by almost 500 % and reduced the settlement by almost 88 % whereas the bearing pressure has increased 200 w.r.t. conventional GR soil and the settlement has reduced by 67%. The zone of influence has also gone up by 67 % for PGR soil w.r.t. UR soil and 25% w.r.t GR soil.
