Lakefront Renaissance
Once isolated and inaccessible to the public, Milwaukee’s downtown lakeshore has been transformed into a major cultural district and community attraction. Years in the making, the project included the reconfiguration of a man-made island, the creation of two basins linked by a pedestrian bridge and pathway system, and extensive breakwater and shoreline protection measures designed to withstand the harsh wave and ice conditions associated with Lake Michigan.
