Improved Design of Fluid Networks with Computers
A new approach to the solution of hydraulic equilibrium conditions in existing, expanded, or new fluid distribution systems is described. The method facilitates the planning and design of economic additions to existing networks, as well as the construction of completely new systems. By combining the computational methods of linear algebra with the speed of computers it is possible to solve complex networks analytically. The results of the analysis are presented in graphic form as three-dimensional isometric plots of node pressures and as plans describing network geometric and flow conditions. Also, a preliminary cost estimate for the complete system or addition under study is prepared by computer. Three programs are used to provide results which are ready for engineering analysis—thereby, virtually eliminating the need for manual reduction of the computer output.
