A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Acoustic emission (AE) is a term named for elastic waves generated by sudden changes in materials which occur locally due to deformation, cracking, and transformation. At present. Since AE is very sensitive to the initiation and the growth of cracks in the materials, it has been widely utilized as an inspection technique of non-destructive evaluation for materials studies in the laboratory. The aim of the paper is to summarize the typical acoustic emission characteristics for steel fibre concrete which is widely used in bridge engineering. Specimens of steel fibre concrete and normal concrete are tested under uniaxial tension loading, then feature parameters and waveforms of acoustic emission signals during the whole process of failure are acquired using broadband sensor. Comparison and statistic analysis of AE parameters and waveform spectrums based on FFT of these specimens are performed. The acoustic emission characteristics of steel fibre concrete in different damage stages are obtained, and the damage process of steel fibre pull out is analyzed by acoustic emission. The research is helpful to the physical mechanism identification of fibre concrete in damage process.
