Design of Shoring System for a Deep Foundation Pit Excavation
This paper involves a foundation pit about 10.0 m in depth. The main problems in choosing a supporting system for excavation are difficult geological conditions and pipelines around the pit. Pile-anchor structures (bored piles and pre-stressed anchors) were used as the shoring system in the east, the south and a part of the west of the foundation pit to restrain displacements. The composite soil nailing walls (jet grouting piles combined with soil nailing) were adopted as the supporting system in the north and west of the foundation pit. Jet grouting piles were chosen both as a cut-off wall and a tool to reinforce the soil mass. The design calculation method of the pile-anchor structure and the composite soil nailing walls are presented. The structural characteristics of bored piles, pre-stressed anchors, cut-off walls and soil nails are also introduced. The results of monitoring in excavating the pit demonstrated excellent stability of the foundation pit.
