Drag and Lift on Spheres within Cylindrical Tubes
Method for evaluating lift and drag forces that are exerted by moving fluid on spherical particle resting on bottom of cylindrical tube; experimental data presented show variation in lift and drag force with particle to pipe-diameter ratio and Reynolds number; it is concluded that for spheres near wall of tube lift force with magnitude comparable to that of drag force exists.
