Historical Study of the Wind Design Provisions of ASCE 7
Wind design provisions have changed dramatically since the publication of the 1988 edition of ASCE 7: Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. This paper will compare the history of ASCE 7 wind design provisions from 1988 to 2010, and editions in between. Design examples will be utilized in order to show how changes in wind load provisions have altered the design of buildings in various areas of the United States. Civil and structural engineers should find this paper informative, and gain perspective on the history of ASCE 7.
