Selecting Pipe Sizes in Network Optimization by LP
A Method based on the critical path concept is developed herein for selection of the optimal sets of pipe sizes for optimization of branching networks by L. P. The optimal sets consist of two consecutive pipe size having friction slopes which are the immediate lower and higher values as compared to the friction slopes obtained by the critical path concept. These optimal sets reduce the size of the LP model and give a solution which can be considered global optimal for all practical purposes.
