Following a brief summary of main European regulations dealing with stormwater, the current French and other West European approaches to innovative stormwater management are presented, with respect to BMP analysis, design and performance. This information is based largely on reviews of the European technical literature and the proceedings of the 2001 Novatech conference on innovative technologies in urban storm drainage, which contain a wealth of information on the use of BMPs in France and several other West European countries.
