Study of Seismic Design for Bridges Crossing Fault-Rupture Zones
Several bridges that passed through a fault surface fracture zone were seriously damaged or fully collapsed in the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake, 1999 Kocaeli earthquake, 1999 Duzce earthquake and 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. In this paper, all previous seismic examples of the bridges that passed through the fault surface fracture zone were outlined comprehensively, and their destruction causes were analyzed in detail. In addition, conclusions were drawn from earthquake damage surveys and bridge design recommendations were obtained from aspects of earthquake-resistant design philosophy, structural form and resistance measures, all of which can be a reference for revision of the relevant part of the current code.
