The Committee on Railway Signals, appointed at the Sixth Annual Convention of the American Society of Civil Engineers, report as follows: Circulars, dated September 15th, 1874, were issued to the railway companies of the United States asking for information as to the systems of signals in use upon their several roads; these have generally been responded to, and the Committee is thus placed in possession of the knowledge necessary to a comprehensive view of that department of railway service in America.
