S-Hydrographs and Change of Unit Hydrograph Duration
The S-Hydrograph or S-curve is the hydrograph corresponding to a uniform rainfall of infinite duration. It is used as an intermediate hydrograph in unit hydrography theory to derive from a specified unit hydrograph of a given duration other unit hydrographs of different durations. One common problem in this unit hydrograph derivation is the fluctuation of both the S-hydrograph and the later portion of derived unit hydrographs. A new approach, the Forward-Backward-S-Curve, which minimizes this fluctuation problem, is described.
