Geotechnical Investigations for Trenchless Technology
Geotechnical investigations are a critical component of trenchless technology projects. Trenchless construction methods can be very sensitive to subsurface conditions in the feasibility, final design, or construction stages of a project. This paper will review the planning, execution, and reporting of these investigations. Comparisons will be made to geotechnical investigations for larger tunnels and other facilities. Case histories will be reviewed for projects in Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and Minnesota. In addition, comparison will also be made between predicted and encountered conditions, and any associated construction difficulties.
