Temporal Variation of Infiltration Inflow in Combined Sewer Systems
Infiltration inflow (I/I) in combined sewer systems is widely underestimated. It has to be accounted for when designing a treatment plant or CSO tanks since it strongly impairs the performance of such structures. This paper develops some methods to determine this inflow component. Particular attention is given to the seasonal variation of I/I, which may be very large. If I/I is considered as an annual mean value only, the maximum inflows in winter and spring may be coarsely underestimated.
