Warp and Weft of Urban Drainage
It is recognized that there are several main research fields of urban drainage, such as hydrology and hydraulics in urban areas, precipitation, sewer and process, source control, best management practice, devices reducing CSOs that is, combined sewer overflows (e.g., by separators, screens), educational issues and so on. This paper describes a sketch of the global aspects on "urban drainage" by means of comparing the process of progress in the fields of urban drainage to a "Warp" and comparing the relationship between the fields to a "Weft." That is, this paper describes the interaction or "interweaving" of overall research in this area with relationships among the research fields mentioned above. It also indicates how to relate the fields of urban drainage, showing some examples. In the process of developing new concepts and new technologies, there are several phases in any field of science. Even in the field of "Urban Drainage," it could be said that this field has made progress step by step.
