Research and Optimization on Flame-Retarding Asphalt System Based on ATH
With the development of engineering construction and transport, the mileage of tunnels built by countries around the world have greatly increased. Asphalt Pavement has become the main form in the pavement of highways and bridges. Tunnel is a semi-closed space that when an accident and firing happen in it, gasoline and other flammable liquids flowdown and will burn quickly and wildly. The fire hazard seriously threaten the human and vehicles' security in tunnel, and cause great casualties and economic losses, which have occurred in many countries of the world. Because of the flammability of asphalt, the asphalt pavement appliances are severely limited in the tunnel project. However, the use of asphalt pavement in the tunnel can be promoted through the approach to flame-retarding treating and changing the material's property of combustion. Based on the flame-retarding system of ATH(aluminum hydroxide), this paper selected the suitable ATH, tested the flame-retarding performance of MH (magnesium hydroxide) and improved ATH flame-retardant properties by Zeolite powder, then designed a reasonable program about ATH flame-retardant technology. Based on researches on the flame-retarding performance of ATH & MH and the accelerating effect of zeolite powder through tested of limiting oxygen index and flash point, the optimum mixture ratio of compound flame-retarding asphalt can be presented. Results showed the limiting oxygen index of compound flame-retarding asphalt could climb to more than 29 percent, and the flash point came to about 420°C, the flame-retarding performance of asphalt was improved greatly. Its mechanism and theory also have been discussed and explored through DSC-TG analysis and SEM observation.
