Nonlinear Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction Analyses of Immersed George Massey Tunnel
This paper presents the theoretical background and the primary results of the numerical analyses and the specific ground remediation measures adopted for the seismic safety retrofit design of the immersed George Massey Tunnel. The comprehensive design approach involving nonlinear dynamic soil-structure interaction analyses, centrifuge models and field gravel drain testing was integral to the successful completion of the final design of this seismically vulnerable structure.
