California Practice in Highway Construction
This paper describes suburban and country road conditions in California and the progress in road building in that State during the past few years. The State contains plentiful supplies of good road materials, rock, gravel, asphaltic oils, etc., and there are several cement factories. The water-bound and oiled macadam roads are described and also concrete and asphaltic pavements; and details are given as to the good and bad features of the bases and the wearing surfaces. Some costs of asphaltic pavements are included.
