Boulder Creek — An Environmental Status Report
Although a traditional channelization project was authorized for Boulder Creek in 1950, the study was later inactivated due to lack of local support. Recent flooding on Boulder Creek has renewed local awareness of potential flood problems. Because of the desires of Boulderites to keep the creek functions and appearance as natural as possible, traditional flood control alternatives were not acceptable. A citizen's committee on environmental planning was formed in 1970 to develop objectives and goals for necessary flood control, as well as protection of the amenities of the creek. Results of an environmental study were plotted on a matrix, matching 37 flood control alternatives against all known biological and cultural resources. These results will be used in future planning efforts.
