Urban Parking Characteristic Investigation and Parking System Evaluation: A Case Study in Xi’an
Recently, urban parking problems in China are getting worse. This paper puts forward an evaluation method to analyze parking characteristics in urban areas, taking Xi'an as an example. Firstly, through surveying the general situations of urban parking facilities and related typical parking lots, this paper analyzes the parking characteristics including the total amount and flow, parking time, peak hours of usage vary from time and location of parking lots. We summarize the existing short-supply parking space and low-utilization problems in the urban areas and discuss about the relationship between parking characteristics and layouts of parking lots. To rationally plan existing parking systems in urban areas, a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model is established, which can be applied to evaluate the parking system of the Xi’an downtown area. The result shows that the evaluation method performs reasonably well.
