Masonry Construction Operations
In the United States masonry contractors, who typically employ seven persons but together have gross receipts of about $2 billion annually, frequently neglect good business practices of planning, organization, management, appraisal, and control detailed in this paper. Cited mason productivity research results from more than 200 investigators are summarized, which can increase mason productivity 50%. The cost of nearly 7,000 masonry construction accidents is $40,000,000 annually. Since union apprenticeship programs have never met mason manpower needs, vocational education in public high schools offers the best available alternative. Prefabricated masonry is well developed and internationally available. Many advantages claimed for prefabricated masonry as listed, with several counter problem areas.
