Statistical Analysis of Cone Penetration Tests and Soil Engineering Parameters at the National Geotechnical Experimentation Clay Site, Texas A&M University
Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) is a fast and economical in-situ investigation method for evaluating soil strata at a site in terms of soil classification and soil engineering parameters via established correlations. The National Geotechnical Experimentation Sites (NGES) provide extensive sets of CPT data, as well as the results from alternate in-situ tests and laboratory measurements conducted on soil samples obtained from these sites. These sets of data can be utilized to study different aspects of the applicability of CPT in geotechnical engineering. This paper attempts to assess the spatial variability of the CPT readings at the NGES clay site at Texas A&M University. An effort is also made to review the reliability of different CPT-based correlations from multiple statistical data analysis tools and comparison with the laboratory measured values of the selected soil engineering parameters at the site.
