The Bureau of Reclamation: A Century of Water for the West: 1902-2002
The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) will celebrate its Centennial beginning in June 2002, during the same time that American Society of Civil Engineers celebrates its 150th Anniversary. It is the hope of Reclamation that ASCE members will join us as we celebrate our centennial. Water is supplied to over 31 million people in the West by Reclamation Projects and provides recreation opportunities to more than 90 million people at 308 recreation areas. Reclamation provides water for irrigation of 10 million acres that produce 60 percent of US vegetables and 25 percent of US fruits and nuts. Reclamation produces more than 42 billion kilowatt hours annually from 58 power plants with revenues of nearly $1 billion.
