Strength in Bending
An analysis is presented of the static load-carrying capacity of plate girders subjected to bending. First, the phenomenon of “web buckling” is discussed to explain the discrepancy between actual behavior (1)3 and theory. Following this is an analysis of the bending strength of plate girders. Finally, an attempt is made to interpret the findings as a design concept.
