Time of Concentration of Overland Flow
The component of surface runoff, which flows over the land surface, is generally know as overland flow and in conjunction with other components constitutes the streamflow phase of a hydrologic cycle. In hydrologic engineering studies, one of the frequently encountered problems is to estimate the time of concentration from readily obtainable information. The phase, time of concentration, implies the travel time of water from the most remote segment of the drainage basin to reach the outlet. Consequently, the total travel time includes both the overland phase and the channel phase of water movement. This paper is concerned with the overland flow phase of the runoff process.
