The Sanitary Engineer in Relation to Public Health
With the expansion of human knowledge and the ever-increasing complexity of social management, the role of the sanitary engineer in public health has broadened to include all elements of the environment. Sanitary engineering and environmental control (in the interest of public health) are now synonymous terms. In contrast to other engineers who are increasing their specialization, the sanitary engineer is obliged to diversify his knowledge. To his engineering training must be added an understanding of basic health practices, bacteriology, entomology, parasitology, chemistry, physics, administration, law, sociology, public relations, and education.
