Cast-Iron-Strength, Resilience, Tests and Specifications
It is proposed in the following paper to give the results of some experiments at the Washington University Testing Laboratory, on the testing of cast-iron for strength and resilience in tension, compression and cross breaking; to describe the methods and appliances there used; to make a plea for the general adoption of resilience tests of cast-iron; to state a new rule and describe a new machine for cross breaking tests; to explain the high cross breaking modulus of cast-iron; and to propose a set of specifications for engineers to use for cast-iron products.
