Paper presents computations of pressures on cylindrical flip buckets by assuming irrotational vortex flow; correlation between maximum theoretical pressures thus determined and maximum pressures observed in model studies; correlation shows that, despite simplifications involved, theory may provide good estimate of maximum pressure, both for chute and for tunnel spillway flip buckets.
