Cologne, the third city of Prussia iri respect to population, bas, inclusive of the suburbs, over 300 000 inhabitants. In consequence of the demolition of the old fortifications in 1881, and the establishment of a new boundary about 500 m. (1 640 ft.) distant from the old one, Cologne has grown very rapidly in the last 10 years, the increase in population being about 60 000.
