Description of Coos Bay, Oregon, and the Improvement of its Entrance by the Government
This timely paper, following closely on an official report on the improvement of the Brunswick Bar, Ga., calls attention, in a general way, to the methods now pursued and the results attained in the Government practice, and also serves to illustrate the very divergent conclusions reached from similar data. As the United States is assuming a position of ever increasing importance as a maritime nation, it is of primary importance that the bars obstructing her harbors be removed in such manner as to secure the best depths available at the least annual cost for maintenance.
