Two-Dimensional Flow Field of Multiport Diffuser
The objective of this note is to derive, primarily through simple dimensional arguments, the gross characteristics of the two-dimensional flow field induced in the center of a long, multiport ocean sewage outfall. This overall flow field must be considered for diffusers operating in shallow waters, as it can affect the dilution achieved by the diffuser. The receiving water is otherwise stagnant and unstratified, and it is assumed that the diffuser can be approximated as a line plume. The results of two-dimensional experiments which were obtained in conjunction with a study of the three-dimensional flow field created by a line plume of finite length in a moving current are presented.
