A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
It is not claimed by the writer that the following designs and outlines of specifications for round-houses are entirely new, but, by bringing before the Society what he considers desirable construction, it is hoped that the discussion may be of benefit in future work. The writer recognises certain apparent inconsistencies: Tor instance, in the concrete-steel design (Plate XV), there is shown a wooden monitor. This might more appropriately be made of :fireproof materials. However, the greater distance from the floor raises the question whether or not such additional expense is warranted. It might be added that the monitor shown should be dowelled or otherwise fastened to the sill girder. The cast-iron door posts, of course, may be made of structural steel design.
