Simple Practical Applications for Sustainability Principles in Urban Drainage Master Planning
Urban drainage systems have provided flood-prone communities with flood protection that is only as good as the planning principles on which they were developed. Classic approaches to urban drainage master planning are good as far as they go, but clearly there is room for improvement. Improvement depends not so much on new technology as it does on our efforts to make best use of well-known planning principles. Sustainability principles are described herein, and simple, practical applications for these principles in the planning of urban drainage systems are proposed, based on the author's education and experience.
