Welded Structures: Fabrication and Construction
During the latter part of the nineteenth century the develop1nent of the elevator contributed to an increased demand for taller buildings; height limitations on masonry walls do not lend themselves to tall-building construction, but structural-steel construction met this demand. The introduction of welding in the 1920's proved to be another impetus to the use of structural steel.
