Structural Equation Modeling for Travel Behavior of Residents in Large Residential Community
In the process of rapid urbanization, the travel activities of urban residents who live in suburban areas of large residential communities are totally different from those who live downtown. By using travel survey data of a large residential community, which was investigated in September 2012, this paper established a structural equation model for their travel behavior. Four factors were chosen as exogenous variables, including age, occupation, salary, and education. Residents’ travel activity duration, numbers of trip chains, and travel time were chosen as endogenous variables divided into work and nonwork activity. This paper discusses its model structure, parameter estimation, direct and indirect effects and finally obtains a complex influence path between exogenous variables and endogenous variables. The results of this study have an important significance for improving traffic planning for a large residential community and optimizing the structure of travel.
