Plastic Surgery on Irrigation Arteries
Seepage from irrigation channels can be reduced, bank stability improved, and ground-water movement controlled by the installation of vertical plastic-membrane cutoffs in or adjacent to the channel bank. Details are presented of design considerations and construction methods used on installations on the Columbia Basin Project, including the use of a shield on a ladder-type excavator in unstable ground.
