The great industrial expansion which has occurred in the United States during the past decade has placed a premium upon the efficiency of machines and labor. When properly designed and selected, aerial ropeways are very economical and trustworthy machines. The English bibliography is meager. This paper aims at an outline classification, together with such comments and formulas, that may be of service to engineers in determining the elements of an aerial ropeway for their needs.
