Dredged Material Management Alternatives: Islands, Sub-Aqueous Placement Cells and Sedimentation Minimization
This paper summarizes various engineering alternatives that were examined for the Port of New York and New Jersey as part of the dredged material management program (DMMP), a comprehensive investigation led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District. Three categories of engineering alternatives for the harbor are described, namely artificial islands, subchannel/subaqueous placement cells, and sedimentation minimization measures. Design, costs and other issues are presented.
