A Coordinated Effort
Engineers designing a bascule bridge rehabilitation that was intended to extend the life of the structure by 10 years quickly discovered that the bridge’s deficiencies warranted additional work. The client agreed to a more extensive overhaul that would extend the bridge’s life by 25 years, but weaving the more complex work around restrictions on navigation channel and bascule operations, lane closures, and environmental disturbances, among many other considerations, required skillful coordination.
