Hydrology and Water Resources Planning: 1776-1976
The development of hydrology as a science and its application to planning and design of water projects is traced from the American Revolution to the bicentennial year. The factors leading to specific advances in hydrology and the mechanisms by which these advances were made are reviewed. Substantial delay between development of new techniques and their application in practice is noted.
