Harrison County (Mississippi) Artificial Beach
The natural beach that existed along the Harrison County (Mississippi) shore disappeared when a sea w all was completed in 1928. This was followed by the loss of backfill through the joints and drains in the sea wall and later by some damage to the wall during a hurricane in 1947. Studies indicated that an artificial beach would provide needed protection to the sea wall and would also provide a desirable re creational facility for the public.
