Overview of Analytical Procedures to Predict Concrete Damage under Impulsive Loads
The blast load has a great effect on concrete structures; it can cause damage, which ranges from spalling to complete failure. This study presents an overview of the analytical models used to predict the spalling/cratering of concrete structures under close-in detonations. The study evaluates the current equations predicting the damage of concrete structures under blast loads comparing with the results obtained from a code developed by the authors. The routine was proposed using the MATLAB code, which is based on wave propagation through concrete members. The results were also compared to the existing damage level charts available in the literature. The results predicted by the developed code show a good agreement compared to the existing data available in the literature.
