Air Entrainment in Surface Rollers
Studies indicate that surface rollers are well suited as hydraulic aeration devices for water quality enhancement. An important indicator concerning the efficiency of such devices is the amount of air entrained into the flowing water in the vicinity of the roller. This information is also needed in consideration of the priming action of siphons, in which case the surface roller is formed mostly by the impingement of a free plane jet upon an inclined wall. To provide such information, systematic experiments were carried out for the flow configuration.
