Effect of Compressive Strength on Grouted Sand Column and Compacted Cylindrical Specimen
Grouting technology has become a widespread ground improvement method used often for underground and foundation constructions. Owing to the importance of proper grout mix which includes the proportion of water–cement ratio, an attempt is made in the present investigation to get the compressive Strength of sand stabilized with cement in two ways i.e. Grouting and compacting, the sand and cement with required water content. An unconfined compressive strength test was conducted on grouted sand column with water cement ratio of 1.5, 2 and 2.5. The above experiments were repeated with an addition of 2% sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde (SNF). The experimental results revealed that at lower water cement ratio higher unconfined compressive strength (UCC) is obtained. It was also observed the compressive strength increases with curing period. Another set of experiments were conducted in compacted cylindrical specimen with cement content varies from 2 to 15%. A correlation between UCC strength compacted cylindrical specimen with SNF and UCC strength compacted cylindrical specimen without SNF is established.
