Some Remarks on the Chemistry of the Processes of Lime Sulphite Fiber Manufacture
I propose in this paper to give an outline simply of the chemistry of the sulphite fiber industry. This will be concerned only with the material for digesters, the bisulphite solution and the fiber. By sulphite fiber is meant, fiber manufactured from wood for paper making by the use of a solution of bisulphite of lime or magnesia. As you are doubtless aware, the chief difficulty to be overcome in this process is the securing of a digester which will stand the action of the acid solution used to reduce the wood to fiber.
