Geotechnical Characterization of Dredged Materials
Dredged material characterization plays an important role in planning and design efforts for dredging operations. Geotechnical parameters are needed for input into dredging operation models and for evaluation of dredged material placement options. Proper selection of geotechnical parameters is crucial for accurate modeling forecasts and project design, yet often the required parameters are not available or readily obtainable. This paper discusses some of the issues related to geotechnical testing and evaluation of dredged materials with emphasis on innovative or expedient methods for determining geotechnical parameters.
