Effect of Lightweight Aggregate with Different Moisture on Autogenous Shrinkage and Stress under Partially Restrained Condition
A study of the efficiency of lightweight aggregate (LWA) in controlling restrained shrinkage cracking of low water-to-cement ratio concrete is presented. Free autogenous shrinkage test of concrete specimens and restrained test with ASTM C 1581-04 were performed. Autogenous shrinkage and restrained stress of concrete with different moisture content (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 100%) LWA at the same water-to-cement ratio of 0.30 were investigated by experiments that provided date on free autogenous shrinkage and restrained shrinkage. The results showed that the pre-wetting LWA effectively reduced autogenous shrinkage, restrained shrinkage and tensile stress in the restrained conditions. Also, it was found that the shrinkage stress was relaxed more and more with degree of saturation of LWA increasing, and can be mitigated by 45.7% in the concrete with the saturated LWA.
