A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A simple elastoplastic model for sand and clay, which is named as subloading tij model, is presented. This model can describe particularly the following typical characteristics of soils with unified material parameters: the influence of intermediate principal stress on the deformation and strength, the influence of stress path on the direction of plastic flow and the influence of density and/or confining pressure on the deformation and strength. Since the details of the model are described in the published paper, only the concepts and methods to take into consideration these influences are described in the present paper. This model is applied to 2D and 3D boundary value problems in geotechnical engineering such as tunneling, braced excavation and bearing capacity.
