Gross Parameter Solutions of Jets and Plumes
Gross parameter solutions are presented for turbulent jets, plumes, and buoyant jets in stagnant, homogeneous, or linearly stratified environments. The result is given in a form that will facilitate ready comparisons of the effects of various assumptions concerning the hydraulic conditions that can be expected in a design situation. Dimensional analysis was used along with the geometric relations for the jet trajectory and the basic equations for conservation of mass and momentum. Mathematical point and line sources have been used consistently, simplifying the procedure of normalizing the governing equations and thus also the solution and presentation of the results.
