Determination of Aquifer Transport Parameters
The mathematical simulation of dispersive pollution transport for any ground-water field is possible provided all physical parameters appearing in the governing partial differential equation are defined. The present work deals with determining the flow velocity, flow direction, and longitudinal and transverse dispersion coefficients. A use of the multi-well tracer technique with the instantaneous input is suggested. An original method for solving the inverse problem is derived. This method provides possibility of simultaneous determining all four above mentioned parameters from the experiment involving only two observation wells. The identification procedure is based upon fitting the analytical linearized model to experimental data. The favorable geometric conditions for setting up the field experiment are given. The method was tested on computer-simulated data sets.
